Barikot (Urdu: بریکوٹ‎) is a city positioned within the center course of the Swat River within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. It’s about 20 km (12 mi) away from Mingora and from Butkara. It’s the entrance city to the center Swat valley with a inhabitants of 25,000 roughly. Barikot is the traditional Bazira of Alexander the Nice, with Chalcolithic stays since c. 1700 BC, and an Early Historic interval city since c. 500 BC. The Italian Archaeological Mission (renamed ISMEO), based by Giuseppe Tucci has been excavating ruins of the traditional city of Bazira below Barikot since 1984.
